INSTRUCTIONS: The Day Before.
Please follow these prep instructions prior to your test to ensure correct results.
DO:
FAST OVERNIGHT at least 12 hours before the test. This means that you consume no food and drink only water. You must arrive for the test on an empty stomach.
Consume a meal consisting of rice, meat and vegetables the night before the test. Pasta and bread interfere with the results and must be avoided.
Notify your doctor if you had any recent antibiotic treatment or runny diarrhea as these may affect the validity of the test.
Brush your teeth in the morning.
Please note that you will be asked to rinse your mouth with mouthwash prior to the test.
DO NOT:
Eat high-fiber or slowly digested foods the day before the test. Such foods include bran, nuts and beans.
Take antibiotics two weeks prior to the Bacterial Overgrowth Breath Test.
Chew gum or smoke on morning of test.
Do not take any of your medicines on the day before, or morning of the test. If you wish, you can bring your medicines with you, so you can take them after the test.
Do not take any lactulose for 48 hours prior to the test, as it will interfere with the results.
Do not indulge in moderate exercise e.g. (don't climb stairs the day of test if at all possible).
